Haystack News is a collaboration between two artists. We picture our collaboration as a malleable body, which grows, shrinks and shifts like a haystack. As though we would rake together blades of grass into a heap, we gradually gather and stack the medial snippets of our individual views. In our combined effort is an ephemeral moment of juxtaposition. Together, we unearth an image which testifies to our two standpoints. An image embedded in the work surrounding it.
Daniel was born in in 1984 and grew up in Oensingen, Switzerland on his family’s farm. He continues to draw many artistic impulses from rural agricultural environments. Erin was born in Laytonville, California, USA in 1989. A lifetime love of books resurfaces in her work as an interest in narrative and story-telling. We met in 2007 while traveling and afterwards both completed masters degrees in Art and Design Education at the Academy of Art and Design (HGK-FHNW) in Basel, Switzerland. What started during our studies as an exchange about our individual work developed by the end into occasional collaborations and an urge to work together on a regular basis. From May 2015 to September 2016, we took our collaboration on the road on a bicycle trip from Basel, Switzerland to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
